OUR STORY

Over the years, there are memorable people that make us feel at home. Their warmth helps us settle into the moment and express ourselves. Like these relationships, you can cultivate a sense of place and connection in the design of your own home.

It’s personal.

When you see designs that speak to you, it’s like a light bulb brightening, and you can feel your eyes and ears perk up as you imagine making it yours. This is joy. It’s the reason why Louis + Jig is here for you.

My grandfather, Charles Louis, has inspired me to continually create and live through the joy of woodworking.
— Justin Smith, L+J Founder

Justin Smith is the lead designer and master woodworker of Louis + Jig. You will work directly with him to create your custom furniture piece. His distinct designs will be adjusted to your preferences for wood type, made to order, and delivered to you in 6-10 weeks. If you dream of a one-of-a-kind piece in the Louis + Jig signature style, you will have an in-depth, collaborative experience with Justin to bring it to life. Find your perfect match here.

Louis + Jig home goods will undoubtedly bring you joy as you share them with others. Justin and his partner designed these items during their own journey to make home, and are excited to hear your stories about them. Imagine your guests choosing their cup of chamomile tea with ease from your tea collection, rather than searching the stuffed kitchen drawer. The “Special T Tea Box” is a beautiful addition to daily rituals, and occasional cups alike. Justin makes all home goods in small batches and they sell out quickly. Let us know if you’d like to be notified of limited release dates here.

We are so happy to welcome you to the Louis + Jig community.

Thank you for sharing in the joy.

Justin Smith created Louis + Jig to honor the people in our lives that make us feel at home. His study in design and woodworking began 20 years ago as an apprentice in Montana, while also completing a Master’s degree in architecture at the university. Many splinters and adventures later, he completed a Mastery Study at The Northwest Woodworking Studio under the direction of Gary Rogowski. Justin is inspired by pattern and movement in the natural world. His experiences of summitting peaks and traveling the world by bicycle ground his work in ease, strength, balance, and wonder.

Making furniture is a personal process that has taught me about intuition, mistakes, and the beauty that results from both. It’s a distilled version of the experience of life.
